Marcel Pagnol, native son

A native of Aubagne, 'petit Marcel' wrote about the adventures of his youth, insightfully describing key characters from Provençal life. Works in his oeuvre such as 'La Gloire de mon père' ('My Father's Glory') and 'Manon des Sources' ('Manon of the Springs') illustrate the writer's passion for his native region.

Jean Giono, nature-lover

Through his words, Jean Giono created spectacular descriptions of the Haute-Provence landscapes he held so dear. His stories full of authentic charm, such as 'Colline' ('Hill of Destiny'), 'Un de Baumugnes' ('Lovers Are Never Losers') and 'Regain' ('Second Harvest'), are set in the area around Manosque where he was born.

Paul Cézanne, devotee

From his workshop in a farmhouse in the heart of Aix-en-Provence, the painter endeavoured to vividly reproduce scenes from Mediterranean life. That's not to mention the captivating Montagne Sainte-Victoire, which he painted more than 80 times, making it famous worldwide.
