La Terrasse de Lurs: Provence on a Plate

La Terrasse de Lurs restaurant, which opened in November 2014, stands at the center of an outstanding site. Its chef, David Arcos, hopes to make it a welcoming place.

“Magic." That's the word David Arcos uses to describe the setting of the new restaurant over which he now presides. Located at 585 meters above sea level, this former tool shed used during olive harvests was renovated by the municipality, who intended to create a space where the villagers could meet.

As you cross the restaurant’s terrace, the reception is already more than welcoming. The site allows you to admire the Valensole Plateau, the Durance river, and the surrounding olive groves. A real breath of fresh air for David Arcos, who was busy only a few months ago in the kitchens of the Bonheur Fou, in Manosque.

By moving to Lurs, the chef wanted to be as close as possible to the local produce that he so loves to prepare. From lentils ‘à la provençale’ to the traditional onion, anchovy and olive focaccia, or ‘pissaladière,’ the chef likes to reinterpret regional dishes. His philosophy? To banish the freezer! He hopes to obtain the label "Bistrot de Pays," which rewards quintessential French bistros.

The chef conceived the restaurant in a spirit of sharing. Soon, he will organize cultural events and culinary workshops, which will bring together villagers and tourists, with no fuss.
